So, I am writing to you today not to scold, but to propose a partnership. A summer alliance, if you will. Let’s work together to keep the wonderful chaos of summer from staging a full-scale takeover of our sanctuary. Here are a few humble suggestions:
- Establish a Landing Zone: Please, I beg of you, create a designated spot right by the door. A basket for sandy shoes and flip-flops. A specific hook for damp beach towels. A bin for pool toys. If we can contain the outdoors at the threshold, we can prevent the entire house from turning into a beach.
- The Ten-Minute Tidy: Before bedtime, or before heading out for the day’s adventure, could you take just ten minutes? Put the craft supplies back in the box. Carry the glasses to the kitchen. Put the pillows back on the sofa. A little tidying by everyone makes a world of difference.
- Contain the Crumbs: Summer is for snacking, I understand! But let’s try to keep the chips, cookies, and popsicles in the kitchen or on the patio.
- A Fresh Start for a Fresh Day: Waking up to yesterday’s mess is a surefire way to start the day on a cluttered foot. A quick wipe of the counters after dinner or a swift sweep of the kitchen floor can make the next morning feel calmer and more intentional.
Think of these small acts not as chores, but as kindnesses to your future selves—and to me. The more we team up during the week, the more our Saturdays can be a quick, efficient refresh, leaving you with more time to actually enjoy the clean, peaceful space we create together.
A home isn’t just a place to keep your stuff; it’s a place that should feel restful and restorative, especially during these beautiful, fleeting summer months. Let’s make sure it feels that way, every day.
Yours in shine and order,
Sarita
