I know it can feel like a trivial chore, easily skipped in a busy morning rush. However, I want to encourage you to see it differently. Making your bed is the first accomplishment of the day. It’s a small act of order that sets a positive tone for everything that follows. It instantly transforms the bedroom from a space of slumber into a sanctuary for the day, making the entire room feel more pulled-together and serene. A made bed is a gift you give your future self—a calm, inviting welcome at the end of a long day.
Mastering a well-made bed is simple. Here’s our professional method:
- Clear and Smooth: After getting up, pull back the heavier layers and pull your top sheet taut from the foot of the bed up to the headboard. Smooth it out completely.
- Tuck the Corners: For that crisp, hotel finish, tuck the flat sheet tightly under the mattress on both sides and at the foot. For a truly sharp look, create a “hospital corner” by tucking the end first, then folding the side into a neat, 45-degree angle before tucking it in.
- Layer and Fold: Lay your quilt or duvet evenly over the top, leaving enough room at the head of the bed to fold your top sheet back over it for a polished look.
- Fluff the Pillows: Give your pillows a quick fluff or a firm “karate chop” down the middle to give them shape, and arrange them neatly.
That’s it. It’s a simple ritual that replaces morning chaos with immediate calm. I encourage you to try it for one week and see how it impacts the feel of your home and the start of your day.
Wishing you peace and order,
Sarita
